March 30th Shut Up and Write: You’re the star!

This month we’re having an open Shut Up and Write, no celebrity host (unless someone gatecrashes it), just a solid block of good writing time. However, if you have published a book, chapbook, or even a zine, please bring a sample and a few copies for sale. A merch table will be available, and at some point we’ll take a break to have all writers showcase their book and say a few words about it.

As usual, Shut Up and Write meets at 6:00pm - 9:00 pm at Chance of Rain, 1522 SE 32nd and Hawthorne.

Shut Up and Write: Todd Cobb

todd-cobb-bw.jpgHappy New Year, folks! We had a heck of a holiday season, filled with laughter, gifts, evictions and emergency surgery. All juicy fodder for fiction, eh? But January is here once again and we’re back on track.

We expect to host Shut Up and Write at the usual spot, Chance of Rain, and the usual date, January 27th, but at 6 pm instead of 7 pm. Host will be author Todd Cobb, whose recent book, Ghosts of Portland, Oregon, is out on Schiffer Books.

See you there!

NaNo Shut Up and Write

During the month of November, Shut Up and Write was held every week for many attendees who were working on books for National Novel Writing Month. Much writing and distraction were accomplished, and many attendees had finished novels at the beginning of December!

Shut Up and Write October 28

mykle_cathead.jpgGet spooooooooooooooooky with bizarro writer Mykle Hansen, who will read from his new book Help! A Bear is Eating Me! (website with badass podcast here). Do not fail to come by early, like 7:30 PM, to Chance of Rain, and become inspired by Mykle’s lively reading.

Then you will write! Write and write! Or hide in the conversation pit with Mykle and other fine PDX writers.

The First Shut Up and Write

author_portrait_libbey_140.jpg Our first meeting’s host will be Portland author Steve Libbey, whose Subatomic book, The Bloodbaths, hits the shelves in October.

If you are a writer who wants a change of pace, Shut Up and Write is perfect for you… at least one day of the month, anyway. Settle into a booth with new writing friends and knock out some word count. If words evade you, join in a chat with the host author and other Portland literary functionaries.

Festivities kick off at 7:30 PM, end at 9:30 PM. If the mood is good, drinks will take place elsewhere. It’s Portland; you can’t plan these things!
